Radio Playa is based in the south of Gran Canaria, one of the seven Canary Islands. The island is a sun seekers paradise. Visitors are almost guaranteed sunshine, no matter what time of the year. The average temperatures range between 18 and 30 degrees. Gran Canaria is also known as a mini continent because of the colourful landscapes, different climate, wild cliffs, & flora and fauna. The island has a 230 kilometre long coast line and is only 50 kilometres wide. Las Palmas, the capital in the north of the island is a bustling city, with a vibrant city beach Playa de Las Canteras.
We think Radio Playa is an appropriate name for a radio station broadcasting from an island with such an abundance of beaches! From the impressive sand dunes of Maspalomas, the bars of Puerto Rico, the quaint charms of Mogan, or the discos of Playa del Ingles, you are never far from 'la playa'.
